I haven't seen her in much, but she was great in the very underrated, under-appreciated Idiocracy. Do yourself a favor and see it immediately if you haven't.
As Wikipedia elegantly put it, this "American pornographic actress" turned 33 on Saturday. I didn't realize she was only a few years older than me. Yet so much further ahead in the game of life.
I lost a lot of respect for this guy about 4 years ago when he became the first and only famous person to deny me an autograph (and I was only one of three people standing there). He was in town for the filming of the Prairie Home Companion movie. I always had a lot of luck in the past meeting famous people, so when I found out he was in town I thought it would be great if I could get him to sign my Natural Born Killers record store promo flat that I had been holding onto for a good decade. Juliette Lewis was nice enough to sign it a few months prior, and was quite the sweetheart about it.
When I kindly asked him, he glared with his intimidating little beady eyes and responded with a simple, "I don't think so, dude." I was stupefied. At first I wondered if I should be satisfied enough that Woody Harrelson called me "dude". I was at a loss for words and finally said, "Okay, fair enough." He kept staring and nodded. Who would have thought that mister liberal pot smoker would be against taking 2 seconds to sign something for the only person asking? It was thanks to Woody that I left Mickey Rourke alone when I spotted him at a SoHo neighborhood diner in New York the following year. I didn't want to find out he was the same way.
All that aside, I am still very much looking forward to this film:
A couple months ago I drew the Shamwow Guy for a theme park sample (pictured below). A few people at work said, "Now you have to do Billy Mays!" I would say, "Nah, the Shamwow Guy is funnier."
But then God (or whomever) granted Mays' wish to meet McMahon, Fawcett and MJ, so the time was right to get him on our wall. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would draw not one, but two pitchmen/infomercial dudes. However, I really wanted to do Ron Popeil years ago, but decided against it when I figured not enough people would recognize him.
I don't know, I think I may have missed this one. He's actually pretty tough to draw. I like this one better from last year. This was drawn for Rich Ostrom's review of the Blade Runner Final Cut DVD for The Scene, which happened to be just days away from the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It's an old person joke, get it? I thought it was interesting and funny that when the last Indiana Jones film came out, DVDs did not yet exist.
Another day for slim pickings. Here he is depicted as MacGyver's friend, Jack Dalton. I always cringed when McGill showed up in the opening credits, because it meant this would be a Dalton episode, and I hated that character.
Anyone can go ahead and make fun of how unnecessary the release of the latest Rambo film was a couple years ago, but hey, if you are only human and get a charge out of some all American quality violence, you really missed out.
In one of my first summers doing caricatures at the Mall of America, I saw Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi do a free performance to promote a blues album they had just released. It was rather embarrassing to watch, and downright lousy, but I didn't care. This guy was in Trading Places!
