Elvis 2010, Pt. 1

WHAT?! 2 posts in one week? There, ya satisfied MARC?!

This is based on a sketchbook drawing from my beloved Elvis of the day project, drawn on the 314th day of 2008. I have to admit this wasn't nearly as much fun as I anticipated. I thought the eagle would be a blast, but man was I wrong. While I pretty much liked the transferred drawing before I painted on top of it, it kind of turned into a mess. I hope I don't sound like I'm being pathetically modest to anyone who might happen to think this actually kicks ass. It simply took a different direction once the paint was applied. Perhaps the reference photo was taken too literally. I hate it when that happens. It's either a result of undiagnosed ADD, or a plain old lack of vision. Either way, it's all a part of the learning experience for the "big picture", and that is precisely the point.

Well Zack, I guess I can shut up now. I do love the fleshtones you used on this one. and the eagle is pretty bitchin.

Oh, and I have a great story for you about a drunk douche-weasel of a Vikings fan that I was watching the superbowl with last night.

Excellent job! Step back from it for awhile and when you look at it again, I think you will like it much better. The eagle is really cool.

I kind of think it might not be a bad thing the jacket is so literal. It makes the whole thing feel more real, and with that face it makes it pretty damned entertaining. And technically impressive to boot.

Marc- Thanks. And I look forward to that story about the Vikings "douche-weasel"!

日本- I couldn't agree more!

Dave and Jesse- Thanks! I agree that the eagle is actually pretty cool. It was just a lot more labor-intensive than I thought it would be. Not sure what I was thinking, but I guess I anticipated a little more fun. I guess it payed off in the end.

painting realistic glitter is one of the hardest things to do. You did it perfectly! Your Elvis portraits are the best.
